General Conference Spring 2013

What a great time of year to listen to the Lords Prophet and Apostles! If you didn't get to watch it here are my notes from spring 2013 session of General Conference :)

-->
President Monson opened the meeting by saying there will be a Temple build in Cedar City, Utah and another in Brazil.  He then said that there are over 60,000 missionaries in the field, 20,000 who have received a call and 6,000 in the process.

Boyd K Packer

·      We will not always be safe from the adversary, we need to protect the family.

·      The adversary’s objective is too cause destruction.

·      There is safety and security in honoring your covenant.

·      There is no greater work than within the home.

·      We are free to choose our actions but not our consequences.

·      All are born with the light of Christ to know the difference between right and wrong, what we do with it is up to us.

Dean M Davies

·      We must build upon a sure foundation Hel. 5:12

·      The plan of salvation is a clear picture.

·      Balance is vital.

·      Prayer is an avenue for seeking His counsel.

·      Living the Gospel should be as natural as eating and breathing.

·      The spirit acts as a mortar of our foundation.

Elaine S Dalton

·      “What e’er thou art, act well thy part”

·      We are sons and daughters of God.

·      Our part matters because we matter.

·      It is mothers who most directly affect the lives of their children.

·      Mothers and fathers are to help one another as equal partners.

Craig Cordon

·      When we obey His gospel, the Lord forgives us.

·      The Savior wants to forgive.

·      In His mercy He allows improvement over time rather than immediate perfection.

M Russell Ballard

·      The authority of the Priesthood comes by the laying on of hands, the power of the priesthood comes by worthiness.

·      Men administer the priesthood, they are not the priesthood.

·      Both procreative power and priesthood power are to be shared by husband and wife.

·      We have unlimited potential, if we use it.

Henry B Erying

·      As we are ture to promises we have made we will feel His love.

·      There is a glorious homecoming prepared for us.

Richard G Scott

·      Center home and life on the Lord

·      Every decision should be conditioned on what the savior would have us do.

·      Don’t rationalize future happiness by taking short cuts

·      Simple good habits lead to the land of Bountiful.

·      Satan is no match for the Savior

·      Stay on the Lords side and you will win every time.

·      Having scriptures and all of the gospel topics in your pocket (cell phone) wont work unless you study them.

·      Selfishness is the root of great evil.

·      Be an example to your child and to their friends

·      Be a true friend

·      We need to trust in the Lord and His timing.

·      Recognize the good in others and not their stains.

·      There is a time and a season for all things.

·      The atonement is a source of peace.

Quentin L Cook

·      Agency is essential to the plan of happiness, it also allows pain and suffering.

·      It is as individuals and families that we attain peace.

·      Peace comes from knowing that the Savior knows who we are.

·      God is the author of peace not confusion.

·      Many search for peace in worldly ways but it wont be lasting.

·      Repentance and living righteously brings peace.

Stanley G Ellis

·      God had taught us not just a way but the way.

·      An evil in theses days is people walking in their own way not the Lords.

·      Man looketh outwards but the Lord looketh on the heart.

·      How we raise children is more important that where we raise them.

John B Dickson

·      Do we have a greater interest in knowing the Lord than having riches?

David A Bednar

·      Why is the law of chastity so important?

·      All capacities of males and females work together, we need eachother.

·      The power of procreation is spiritually significant.

·      We are entrusted with a portion of the Lords creating power.

·      It should not be to fulfill appetite, recreation or curiosity but and ultimate expression of our divine potential.

·      We live in a fallen world. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

·      Will you respond to man or the spirit?

·      The fathers plan provides direction for his children.

·      Disciplining the natural man brings love of God.

·      Will we feel at home in His presence?

·      Guilt is to our spirit what pain is to our body.

·      The Lords truth isn’t altered by mans opinion.

Russell M Nelson

·      Be ready to answer those who ask why you live how you do.

·      Catch the wave of missionary service.

·      Without temple work there is no other way to add salvation unto our ancestors.

Dieter F Uchtdorf

·      Darkness exist but don’t dwell there, stay in the light.

·      Leave the past behind and go into the glorious bright future.

·      Spiritual light rarely comes to those who merrily sit in the darkness waiting for someone to flick the switch.

·      The Lord wants you to start where you are, you don’t have to be perfect.

·      Our living hope is in Jesus Christ.

Neil L Andersen

·      Signs and miracles follow the faith of believers

·      If you are not a full time missionary with a name tag, paint one on your heart.

·      All of us can contribute to the miracle of missionary work.

·      The Lord will continue to open important doors.

·      You can help answer the questions in every day conversations.

·      Faith will overcome doubt.

·      We are all in this together.

·      Will we follow the traditions of our fathers or of Christ?

Rosemary Wixom

·      One of the greatest influences in this world is to influence a child.

·      To speak to a childs heart we must know a childs needs.

·      Precious moments of our opportunity dissolve with distractions (such as technology), sometimes we need to just disconnect.

L Whitney Clayton

·      In the happiest marriage, both consider marriage to be a pearl.

·      Watch and Learn

·      Walking in a divinely ordained path

·      Regard marriage as priceless

·      Seek to help, bless, and lift each other.

·      Treat each other as equal partners.

·      Put each other first every time

·      Make decisions unanimously

·      Focus first on the home

·      Make all decisions about finances together

·      Be fiercely loyal to each other

·      Completely respectful

·      Establish marriage as first priority

·      Love each other with complete devotion

·      Marriage is a gift from God to us, the quality of our marriage is a gift from us to Him.

L Tom Perry

·      We live in a war of words deeds and thoughts

·      Obedience to law is liberty

·      Don’t underestimate how driven Satan is to succeed

·      Each choice we make is a choice of agency

·      Do we have other gods and idols?

·      Man substitutes his own rules instead of Gods

·      Commandments are our roadmap, they are unchanging

·      We must not pick and choose which commandments to follow

President Monson

·      The spirit of truth is of God and will be given to those who follow his commandments

·      Rules and laws help insure our physical safety and the Lords guidelines ensure our spiritual safety

·      In the church what we do know will always trump what we don’t know

·      Imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with, besides the Son. I’m sure that is incredibly frustrating to him but he deals with it and so should we.

·      Be patient, kind and forgiving

·      Belief is always a first step to conviction

·      All things are possible to them that believe

Dallin H Oaks

·      Do we love the praise of man more than the praise of God?

·      Find rest through Christ

Christoffel Golden Jr.

·      Devotion to God is a sacred and personal matter

·      The comforter (Holy Ghost) shall teach you all things

Enrique Falabella

·      Celestial marriage ceremony is not enough, we must live a celestial life.

·      It is not enough to know the scriptures we must live them

Erich Kopischke

·      Those who desire acceptance sometimes find it in those people who don’t have their best interests in mind

·      Seeking acceptance from the wrong sources and for the wrong reasons puts us on a dangerous path

·      God doesn’t love our position or status, he loves our heart, acceptance from him will always lift and encourage us

·      Are our hearts honest and our spirit contrite?

·      What no one else around us knows, we know, we need to look within ourselves to be better

·      Sacrifices aren’t always big things, it may be little things each day
